Dr. Marshall Bedder

Marshall Bedder, M.D. is an Associate Professor at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) and Chief of Pain Medicine at the Charlie Norwood VAMC.

He is also the Program Director for the Addiction Medicine Fellowship at MCG. Dr. Bedder received his medical degree and completed a residency in anesthesia from the University of Manitoba. Dr. Bedder is triple-boarded in Anesthesia, Pain Medicine and Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Bedder is the former head of the Pain Management Center at Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) where he established an Anesthesia Pain Fellowship training program. He also helped to establish the hands-on workshops for implantable therapies, which are now the industry standard.

Dr. Bedder continues to present extensively on pain and addiction management topics world-wide. Dr. Bedder is a founding member, past Board member, Treasurer and was President-Elect for the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS), now celebrating its 30th year. Dr Bedder is a Board member Emeritus for the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN).

He has published over 50 original journal articles, reviews, and textbook chapters.

The focus of Dr. Bedder’s career is the intersection of pain and addiction. His commitment to the field of addiction led him to become program director for the fledgling Addiction Medicine Fellowship on a volunteer basis. During this time he worked with other MCG faculty and staff to author a successful grant application to the Health Resources and Services Administration.

This grant fully funds the program for 5 years. Dr. Bedder’s current efforts include identifying additional revenue streams to continue to expand the availability of substance abuse treatment by identifying additional funding to recruit more faculty, fellows and expand clinical space. He is also the World authority on magnetic peripheral nerve stimulation (mPNS) for neuropathic pain.
