SPRAVATO® for Treatment-Resistant Depression
For Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) and Acute Suicidal Depression
Omega Physicians offers SPRAVATO® (esketamine) nasal spray as an FDA-approved treatment option for adults living with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and for adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) with acute suicidal ideation or behavior, when used in conjunction with an oral antidepressant.
SPRAVATO® is designed for individuals who have not experienced adequate relief from traditional antidepressant therapies. Treatment is provided in a safe, medically supervised setting by our experienced clinical team.
Who May Benefit from SPRAVATO®
SPRAVATO® is indicated for adults:
With treatment-resistant depression, either as monotherapy or alongside an oral antidepressant
With major depressive disorder and acute suicidal ideation or behavior, used with an oral antidepressant
SPRAVATO® is not approved for pediatric patients and is not indicated to prevent suicide.
What to Expect During Treatment
SPRAVATO® is administered as a nasal spray in-office under direct medical supervision. Because of potential side effects such as sedation or dissociation, patients are monitored for at least two hours after each treatment session to ensure safety and clinical stability before discharge.
Patients must arrange transportation home and should avoid driving or operating machinery until the day after treatment following a restful sleep.
Safety & Monitoring
SPRAVATO® is a Schedule III controlled substance and is available only through the SPRAVATO® REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) Program. Omega Physicians is a REMS-certified treatment center, meeting all federal safety and monitoring requirements.
Potential risks include:
Sedation and dissociation
Respiratory depression
Increased blood pressure
Risk of abuse or misuse
Our team carefully evaluates each patient’s medical history, mental health needs, and cardiovascular risk factors prior to treatment and provides ongoing monitoring throughout care.
Important Considerations
SPRAVATO® is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding
Patients with certain vascular conditions or a history of intracerebral hemorrhage may not be eligible
Blood pressure is assessed before and after each treatment
Ongoing collaboration with your prescribing provider and care team is essential
